JCPenney Showcases Black Friday Google Home Deal Along With Another Smart Speaker

JCPenney believes Google Home and other smart speakers can help drive shopper foot traffic on Black Friday. 9to5Toys is reporting that JCPenney’s advertisement for Black Friday includes a $50 discount on Google Home which will sell for $80 instead of $130. JCPenney is also promoting Alexa-enabled iLive smart speakers for $40, down from a list price of $99. Voicebot reported last week that Kohl’s is promoting a 40% Black Friday discount deal for Amazon Echo Dot. JCPenney appears to be the first retailer out with a specific deal for Google Home.

Will Smart Speakers Get Shoppers in the Stores

The goal with all Black Friday deals is to encourage shoppers to come in for a “good price” on a popular item and then stay and purchase other products that are not so steeply discounted. Kohl’s, JCPenney and others are calculating that smart speakers will be a big consumer draw during the 2017 holiday season. These don’t appear to be wild guesses on the part of retailers. Strategy Analytics forecasts that 12 million smart speakers will be sold in Q4 2017.

If you don’t want to wait until Black Friday or prefer not to set foot in a retail store on Black Friday you can buy a brand new Google Home today from eBay for $85-$90. You can also buy two Amazon Echo Show and get a $100 discount. Will you be buying a smart speaker this holiday season? Let me know on Twitter.
