Video: 8 People Test Their Accents on Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant

Earlier this year Voicebot featured a comedic skit of two Scottish men trapped in an elevator because the voice assistant cannot understand their thick Scottish accents and hilarity ensued. But are voice assistants really that terrible at understanding thick accents? The team from the podcast Probably Science decided to investigate. In the video below, Andy Wood and Matt Kirshen pit Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant against each other to see which one can best understand a voice query using eight different accents. To be fair, some of the questions are even difficult for a human to say. For instance, “Which writer wrote West World?” Spoiler alert – Google won that round (and the entire contest). Despite the best effort of the participants to throw off Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant with their thick accents, most of the time the voice assistants pulled out a victory.
