Amazon today unveiled another industry first for the Echo, Alexa skills for Pets. Amazon virtually created the market for home-based consumer voice assistants that dominate today’s conversation. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in a Recode interview last year that where we are with Alex and voice assistants:
It’s the tip of the iceberg of what you can do…it’s the first inning. It might even be that the first guy is up at bat.
Well, it appears that a “cat” may be the second one up at bat. This market is moving faster than a Greyhound. The flexibility of the Alexa voice model is astounding in that it can now distinguish animal sounds in addition to human speech. The natural language understanding of pet communication is a break-through technology that would amaze even Dr. Doolittle.
